And then it’s late….

So these are the days that exercising can be so hard – it’s been a nice sunny day out there, you have been out with some friends straight from work and you are feeling exceedingly lazy and definitely not in the mood to even think about working out.

Well for one thing – if you have had a few drinks (alcoholic ones that is) – a hard exercise session is probably not a good idea in any case, but you could do a lot worse then just putting on those comfy shoes and going for a nice steady but relaxing walk (30-45 mins if you can). Particularly if you are almost heading for bed, you will actually gain a much better quality sleep if you have used up some of the remnants of alcohol floating around your bloodstream. Whilst alcohol can make you thinkĀ  that it helps you fall asleep much easier – your entire night’s sleep will be less deep, and more restless leaving you feeling the effects in the morning even on a few glasses. (and I am not even talking hang-overs here!)

So that walk has a quadruple effect – you inhale deeply and get some oxygen into those lungs, you remove some of the alcohol from your bloodstream, you sleep like a baby AND you feel like you haven’t fallen completely foul of your exercise intentions.

A positive physical and mental effect – what a great way to round off a great day!
