What to eat?

Sometimes it can be totally baffling to know what you should actually eat, whether related to exercise or not! Today you might read in the paper you should not have too much caffeine, tomorrow the world decides that it is the best thing since sliced bread – and oh, by the way, you shouldn’t drink wine anymore. Which ofcourse in a year from now will be the most beneficial drink you can have….

I have a very simple rule that you can apply in case you really are not sure whether to have a certain item of food or not – if it is man-made, processed or manufactured – don’t have it. I believe that you should aim to have at least 85 – 90% of your diet made up with natural foodstuffs – ofcourse they can be treated (you can’t eat raw coffeebeans, or have raw oats for breakfast) but anything that has been altered in form by human process is something to only have a very small amount of in your daily diet.

So meats, grains, nuts, vegetables, eggs and fish are all fine. Dairy is not so great – cheese is also processed, same as butter and even milk and yogurts. Protein can easily come from avocados, nuts, lean (white) meats, eggs and fish rather then dairy.

You’ll find if you use my guideline to help you choose, you will find it easier to opt for healthy foods. I’ll write more suggestions on breaktfasts, lunches and dinners over the course of the next period to give you some ideas.
