Fysio/Physical Therapy – it’s part of the game
Jul0
One of the less ideal sides of training and getting fit is that you may get injured in the process… or even if you are not injured, you may know yourself well enough after a while to know when it’s time to be “Reset” – bit like an apple iPhone that needs restoring now and again to iron out all the quirks that seem to build up in the software!!
So my “apple support centre” consists of a range of great physical therapists/fysio’s around the world. I like finding the great guys/gals that I can really trust my body too. After all, I look after it well, so certainly don’t just trust anyone
What I’d like to do is start a list here of not just good therapists, but great ones. So if you read this and you would like to add one – PLEASE do – it may be useful yet to someone else out there in your neck of the woods…or me, as I am travelling around quite a bit!
My favourites are:
Beate Dejaco - works at the Sports Medical Centre Papendal nr. Arnheim, the Netherlands. This is where many Dutch national teams are treated, so you know you are in the right hands. And none better then Beate! Manual therapy as well as physical. And a very well-equipped fitness/recovery area at hand. Tel: +31 26 483 4440
Mike Kelly – NovaCare Rehabilitation, DePaul University in Chicago, USA. He’s just gotten his hands on some tools called the Grafton Technique, which – whilst they leave bruises you will not believe – are amazing for deep tissue work. Mike manages the centre and will put your through your (recovery) paces. So far, every time I have had a problem, he’s had me back running in a week flat! Tel: 1 773 525-4966
Jeroen Schuur and Edwin - Jacob Cats Instittue, Ermelo, The Netherlands. A great all-round institute where they combine physical therapy, with manual therapy and seemingly endless series of prevention and recovery work. Jeroen is also working with the Omega Wave, a new measurement tool which can tell you which of your body’s systems (think heart, lung, liver, hormonal) migth not be functioning optimally. Jeroen is also very used to work with athletes at the highest level.

I hope you might not need them much, but prevention is a good reason to have yourself checked out once in a while. Good prevention can make the world of difference!
