The Light in your Eyes…

During the summer I exercise outdoors as much as I can. The feeling of air and sun on your skin is the best there is and only enhances the work-outs I do.

More and more people are aware of the fact that the sun, whilst great and healthy and necessary in a lot of ways, can also be harmful to your skin and we are beginning to all plaster ourselves with the appropriate SPF’s. But one thing you do need to be aware of when exercising outdoors is the effect on your eyes too! Your eyes are just as susceptible to sun-damage, if not more so!, then your skin. I always wear good sunglasses, but you need to be aware that they need to block the UV rays, not just be as dark as you can get them!

Ofcourse you can buy Oakley, a well known brand popular for years already with triathletes with their cool designs, but you don’t have to go to the expense of that brand. Most sportsbrands, like Nike and Adidas bring out good sportsglasses too, and so do for instance BBB my own favourite brand. Less cool-factor maybe, but great affordable wrap-arounds (meaning no UV rays hit my eyes from the sides either) – BBB Navigator 2 Sport Sunglasses (BSG 16) are a great example  at only US$ 27.00. It’ll cost you less then a bottle of a good sunscreen but hopefully ensure your eyes have a long and healthy life, just like the rest of you!
