Easy Days….

After a few weeks of training like mad, it’s time for an easy week. I really like the three weeks increasing the intensity of your training and then actually taking a step down and having a week in which you simply let your body absorb and recover. During a week like that, you can still work-out, it definitely is not a good idea to sit down on the couch (if you were so inclined…) and do nothing. Your muscles would just go into shock and become stiff and then when you pick up again next week, you might find you simply can’t move!

So what does an “easy” week consist of? Well, you obviously have to look at the training you did the last weeks and make sure it has some relevance. So I did one hard interval run, a longer slower run, a long long long bikeride and a shorter interval ride plus some others bits and pieces in my last week. So this week, I will opt for an easy half an hour run, keeping my heart rate at a much lower rate, moving my legs but not stressing them. Same for my bikeride, an easy hour’s riding is enough. Then instead of the interval sessions, I would still do some intervals but shorter, lower the effort and generally more with a smile on my face instead of a grimace!!!

I always look forward to these weeks – they feel like you can just lean back and enjoy them. But I have to say, at the end of those weeks, I am equally ready to kick some a… again and get working out hard. Just shows you huh, even resting gets boring after a while!
