Paleo Diet
Dec2
I passed on information two days ago on the benefits of a diet that followed certain guidelines. Since then I have been doing a lot more reading about the benefits and have found some additional information that I want to share …
The info was a summary of what is called the Paleolithic Diet – which is also called Cave man diet or Hunter/Gatherer diet. Unlike Atkins which is based on not mixing your proteins and carbs – this “diet” is based on scientifically backed studies into foods that are or are not processed easily by our bodies.
When we started on this earth we ate what we found – there was no way to adapt the foods we found, we just ate them in their natural state. This included seeds, fruits, root vegetables and other greens, meats and birds’ eggs. Then we discovered that you can cook things – which started to change our diet – certain food sources like beans and potatoes, that are all toxic in their raw state – could be eaten once we cooked the toxins out of them. But the Paleo diet argues that our bodies did not necessarily keep up with the new foods and simply are worse at processing these and absorbing the nutrients in them then they are with the sources we naturally found.
The fact that you don’t absorb the nutrients as easily – could mean that you get too little of things you need. And there are people that are simply allergic to some of these foods (gluten amongst them) and will get a huge benefit from not making them part of their diets.
With all the info I post on this blog – I am simply sharing information and options with you. Personally, I do not follow every bit of each thing that passes by. But some studies make sense, and if I feel they could make a positive impact on how I feel and how healthy I am – I am always willing to try for a period of 4-6 weeks. I do my own study effectively just to see how it benefits me. And then I slowly introduce some foods back again to see what that does for me and if I have old symptoms back again… so as with everything – do what you feel is good for YOU. Try things, be flexible about your diet and finding out what makes you feel the best you can feel. After all, it’s your health you are talking about!

Marion,
Funny you should mention the Paleo Diet. My daughter and son-in-law are fitness buffs and have been following it for the last year. Both are involved in extreme workouts and both are in excellent health. They swear by it. And they’ve been pushing me towards it but as a dedicated foodie, I have some issues…not enough wine involved.

Hi Jerry – would love to have your daughter/son-in-law share their experiences and feedback with the Paleo diet? Would be interesting to hear. And…I don’t think a glass of wine now and again would hurt too much…after all, fruits do also ripen on the vine…
