Snow fun
Dec0
This time of the year offers heaps of new types of entertainment and fitness-ability… due to that one special ingredient: snow.
Snow means you can go skiiing, or cross-country skiing, often at the same time as skating etc. But even without resorting to special sports – it offers so many ways of getting a flush on your cheeks and your heart pumping. Simply taking a walk becomes a different kind of work-out. Don’t be put off by the fact that it is cold, bundle up and get those boots on. I went out for a long walk yesterday, and found that the snow was turning into a mushy slush as it was just above freezing. That meant working twice as hard as you would on an ordinary walk – which translates to calories burnt of course. Great exercise, rosy cheeks and a satisfaction once completed guaranteed.
But to me snow has an added benefit. It still gives you that feeling that you had as a kid when you stare out at the white world around you in wonder – and you simply have to get out and get your hands in that stuff! Go out and have a snowball fight, make snow angels, build a snowman – all of the activities you can think of are simple ways of getting your butt of the couch, and your heart pumping a little stronger.
Fitness and Health are not just about dreaming up complicated exercise schedules, or going to the gym every day. It is also about simply enjoying what is in your immediate vicinity and finding ways of being active without using anything special. Snow definitely does have that magic quality – and puts a smile on your face and in your heart.
