Massage – Shiatsu

In my massage series, here’s the second of 14 types…Shiatsu.
I had never had a Shiatsu massage myself as I tend to stick to Deep Tissue Massages to relieve strains and release kinks in my muscles. But a friend had been talking about it, so finally I decided to experience this for myself. It was a true revelation.
Shiatsu ((指圧 Japanese stemming from shi, meaning finger, and atsu, meaning pressure) is performed by a therapist ... Read More
TRX training

In the last year, I have been introduced by my PT Nando to TRX training. Yesterday I continued on the learning path with Chris Dovale at Equinox San Francisco.
TRX training is a great way or working out and can literally be carried with you anywhere. I just love it. Instead of using all sorts of machines, or even dumbbells/weights, it uses your own bodyweight. The core system consists of two pairs of straps, hooked at an elevated level. That means, you can hook it over a door, a ring ... Read More

I am just discovering a whole new way of training… or maybe I shouldn’t call it new, since it is a natural progression in many ways from all the “old” philosophies about training. But new or not, I am loving it! My trainer at Equinox, Caleb Chiu, is taking my through my paces, and despite the injuries I still have (read my prior blogs) I am finding that after a couple of sessions those are becoming less even though I have done some pretty nice workouts. Feeling ... Read More

The Healing Arts Center & Spa, is located at Cavallo Point in Sausalito, just north of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge. Cavallo Point used to be an army barracks but ... Read More
Spas

One of my favourite spas is the Spa at Equinox in Chicago under the fabulous management of Lisa. She definitely is a gal who has things under control. Which includes her clients ... Read More
The Light in your Eyes…

During the summer I exercise outdoors as much as I can. The feeling of air and sun on your skin is the best there is and only enhances the work-outs I do.
More and more people are aware of the fact that the sun, whilst great and healthy and necessary in a lot of ways, can also be harmful to your skin and we are beginning to all plaster ourselves with the appropriate SPF’s. But one thing you do need to be aware of when exercising outdoors is the effect on your eyes too! Your eyes ... Read More
Massage as a training tool
Jun3
All throughout my training career, I have been in favour of a regular massage. Not just because it feels great of course although that is a good enough starting point.
Typically when you exercise, you actually will cause changes in your body over time. That’s the idea, right? You want to lose weight – for that you need to get leaner, increase your metabolism and increase your muscle mass. So you get on a bike, or out on a run and you push yourself . Which in turn means your muscles ... Read More
